Race For The Cure, Fun Run...

September was a busy month for me with the Smiles for life event and I hadn't kept up my running. I decided I would start back up and do a fun 5k run. I scoured my friends for a running buddy but no one would do it... okay I asked one person and it didn't work out. However I decided I would still run it by myself. I did my packet pick up and when I returned home there was another packet in the mail box. The only difference was that the bib in the mail box wasnt a competitive tag (no chip), So I asked the girl who turned my hair pink :) (who I knew was a great runner and would dust me) if she wanted to do it with me, she accepted.

So we woke up to really cold temps and headed downtown.

Yep, both have the same ugly yawning face, nice.

The race was a nice run, some hills but mostly flat. Lora left me within the first few minutes of running. I expected this since she was running a half the following week and had been training for a while, plus I am slow anyway. About 2 miles in I wanted to stop but didn't give in... who wants to stop 2 miles in? Freak! I watched my pace and other people who ran by (I'm a big people watcher) and saw the finish line. I hate the fact that when I know the finish is near I want to be done right then and don't finish strong or speed up my pace, I just kind of jog on by. Where is my strong finish?

Luckily Nate remembered what Lora was wearing so he was able to grab a "I'm gonna beat this guy to the finish line" photo.

And of course love that I look like I am practically walking... I wasn't. I'm competing with an old person here!

In the end, I ran 3 miles in 28:38, 10 seconds after my PR. I finished at 30 mins. Lora on the other hand ran it in like 24 mins. She is freakishly fast and I am lazy and slow. Yeah me!
